So then, the Apple iPad, the long awaited Apple tablet, has been unveiled. My first reaction, being the Apple fanatic that I am, was “I want one now!” However, as the smoke cleared and I started weighing up the pros and cons of the device, I think I’ll have to give it some more thought before I buy one. That’s not to say that I won’t do so, but I want to be sure. There are a number of factors both for and against the Apple iPad device, and here are a few thoughts to mull over, in no particular order:

Pro: The Apple iPad is a marvel of design, sleek and light and easy to carry. It looks great.

Con: It has no way of protecting the screen other than a pouch/sleeve that is separate to the device itself.

Pro: It has the same great touch-screen capabilities of the iPhone and iPod Touch and seems to be a wonderful thing to use.

Con: It runs the phone OS instead of a full OS, which limits what you can do with it.

Pro: The Apple iPad is great for watching movies, TV shows and podcasts and playing games along with surfing the web.

Con: It doesn’t support flash, which will limit the amount of use it is for surfing.

Pro: The Apple iPad is a superb way to stay online when on the go, easy to set up and very fast, and the variety of capacities means there’s one for everyone.

Con: While it’s fast, there are no USB ports and there’s no way of expanding the capacity. Plus, the larger sized drives are incredibly expensive.

Pro: The Apple iPad is superb for travelling and being online when relaxing thanks to the superb UI and the marvellous display.

Con: It doesn’t appear to be much good for doing any work on, which is what many people would want out of it if taking it when travelling.

Pro: It presents a fantastic new e-reader experience for books, magazines and websites to be enjoyed on.

Con: True, but you can say the same about the iPod Touch, the iPhone, the Kindle and the Sony e-reader, all of which are cheaper by a very long way.

Despite its drawbacks, I still want one as they look fun and very cool for casual surfing and entertainment. The lack of capabilities for using it as a work device is the thing that’s turning me off the device right now, but like many other people, I am fascinated by this pretty cool new gadget, and am eager to have a play and see exactly what the Apple iPad tablet can offer me.

Now that the apple tablet iPad has been revealed to the public and the initial industry buzz has subsided, should consumers start planning on purchasing Apple’s latest toy? The general public still has to wait two months for the opportunity to buy the apple tablet and the big question is will the iPad become another iPod or iPhone and change the technology game or will it disappear into oblivion like the Apple Pippin? The professional reviews are in, and what they uncovered with their initial impressions might surprise you.

The Good

Familiarity is the key selling point for the Apple Tablet. The iPad runs a modified version of the current operating system used in the iPhone and iPod Touch. The tablet will synch all your iTunes files, charge and connect using the firmly established white 30 pin connection cord, allow you to purchase applications from the pre existing app store you are used to and the iPad will even transfer the songs, videos, games and helpful apps that you already legally bought (avoiding a “double dip” of a dual purchase for the same content).

The screen resolution is beautiful. Every apple tablet review gushes about the 1024 x 768 high resolution display of the iPad’s 9.7 inch touch screen. The majority of the other technological specs are designed to impress. The CPU clocks in at 1 GHz and provides plenty of lightning quick power for a handheld device. The built in wireless devices on the tablet, WiFi and Bluetooth, will connect and run just as seamlessly as the current generation iPhones and iPods.

The Bad

Get ready for the bad, because there is plenty to complain about with the new iPad. Storage comes in three dainty sizes, 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB. Regardless of how Apple tries to spin the size of the internal hard drives, these are tiny for a product intended to compete in the netbook market. USB drives come in comparable sizes for a fraction of the cost (another issue with the iPad, but this is true of most apple products). Enjoy watching TV shows and movies on the go? With the minimal hard drive space the apple tablet can barely hold a dozen movies and a single season of the average television show. This won’t truly be a problem though as the battery life is expected to last less than 10 hours under heavy use. Basically, it won’t last a full day under consistent usage with a full charge.

The Ugly

Deal breaker time, and there are plenty. No built in USB ports, no flash support for web pages, no webcam, no SMS text messaging, no Skype video conferences or calls and monthly fees to access the exclusive AT&T 3G network are just a few. But nothing pales in comparison to the lack of multi-tasking. To put it simply, the touch screen miniature apple tablet with the power of a netbook, same size as a netbook, costing twice as a much as the average netbook, designed to bridge the gap between cell phones (iPhones) and laptops (Macbooks) CANNOT RUN MORE THAN ONE APPLICATION AT A TIME! For a product designed as mobile device, the inability to run multiple applications at the same time is without a doubt its greatest flaw.

Wasted Potential versus Crushing Reality

Every apple tablet review speaks of the potential of the iPad. It has the potential to be apple’s next big game changer, but its apparent shortcomings and suspiciously missing norm applications and hardware specs also leave the door open for a major flop. The best analogy I’ve come across compares the Apple iPad to a concept car. Similar to a pre-production concept car, the apple tablet iPad introduces plenty of new technology, great ideas, sleek and modern design but its implementation aims at lofty goals while ignoring the current market and reality. It’s lacking in basic functionality and there are simply too many faults in the iPad’s initial version. Essentially, wait until the multi-tasking is ironed out and for the iPad apple tablet version 2.

So, there’s lots of talk going around these days about the forthcoming Apple tablet (notice I’m not speculating here, I do believe the tablet is coming), and whether it will be seen as a Kindle killer, or any other ebook reader, for that matter. I, for one, don’t expect it to kill the Kindle. Kindle already has an established user base, and I don’t see all of those buyers abandoning their Kindle just because Apple is releasing a new tablet. But will an Apple tablet eat away at the Kindle market share? That’s another story.

Let’s look at it this way. The Kindle has been around for a few years now, and when it first came out, well, it was pretty darn expensive. OK, so it wasn’t like buying a new car, but it was pretty expensive for an item that’s sole purpose was for reading books. At that point, it was mostly people with disposable income and techies who were your main buyers. Since then the Kindle has been growing in popularity, and is even now being used on some college campuses as a replacement for all those bulky (and expensive) textbooks. Imagine having all of your textbooks with you at once, and not having it mean you’re carrying an extra 20 pounds in your backpack. That’s a pretty nice feature. To top it off, Amazon touts the Kindle as the number one item gifted on their website to other people this past holiday season. That’s a lot of people with a Kindle already. (We don’t know that actual number of Kindles sold, as Amazon doesn’t release that info)

We can see that the Kindle already has some marks in the win column, and like a good sports team, I don’t expect it to go from greatness to wallowing in defeat in one season. But that doesn’t mean they won’t suffer some losses. When the Apple tablet (and other tablets, lets face it) are released, one huge leg up they will have on the Kindle will be the fact that for a few hundred dollars more, you get a device that can do WAY more than just read ebooks. Too me, that’s a huge selling point. I, personally, don’t have a Kindle, but I do have the Kindle software for my iPhone, and I love using it to read books. Sure, the pages are smaller, but for the most part, that doesn’t bother me. Because I can read in the dark without a book light, and my iPhone can do a LOT more than just read books, and you can get it for less money than a Kindle. Of course, there is the service contract for the phone part, but you can also get an iPod Touch and put Kindle software on it for less than the cost of a Kindle, and you’ve still got a device that can do a lot more. I love that added value, as then I get a lot more for my buck.

Now, let’s take all that’s great about the iPhone, and make it bigger and more powerful, and you’ll have the Apple Tablet. It will read e-books, but it can also help usher in a new era of digital publishing. Imagine reading a book and having it embedded with video clips, full color pictures and the ability to post tweets from within the book. Or reading the latest Sports Illustrated with video highlights from the games of the week, or for the stories. Now add in the fact that it will do that and then some, and now you’re looking at some serious competition for not only the kindle, but laptops and netbooks.

If Amazon is smart about it, they won’t try to fight the tablets, but instead, embrace them. Take their whole e-book business to another level and add features that the Kindle can’t do. Make Kindle software available for tablets, and now you’ve just increased your customer base. Sure, they may not be buying your hardware, but they are still buying books from you. Market the Kindle as a low cost ebook reader, but also embrace those who will spend the extra money on a tablet. If they want to survive in the long run, they’ll need to adapt to a world that keeps moving forward in technology, and not expect the status quo to remain indefinitely. The Kindle will survive, but it won’t emerge unscathed. The time has come for the tablet computer, and it will be one heck of a ride.

While many people are looking forward to having 3D TV sets in their homes in the near future, it might be a while before suitable materials are produced for televisions that support 3D viewing. Another problem is getting the 3D television sets to come down to a price that can be consumer friendly so people can actually buy the sets and make the switch from their current non 3D models. While the latest developments have come to look quite promising, understanding a little about this technology will help us understand whether the technology will be easily developed or not.

The historical development of 3D imaging was seen in the 1800s, when the first Stereoscope was developed by David Brewster. This device was made to take photographs in three dimensional forms. Since. The first Kinematoscope came about in the year 1855 and people viewed the first anaglyph movie in the early 1900s named “The Power of Love.” Presently this technology is being developed so that it can be used in television sets by home viewers.

There are currently a number of methods through which 3D images can be produced and displayed on screen. These are actually projection methods for stereoscopic image pairs which the viewer can view. The methods include the Anaglyphic method which uses passive cyan-red glasses; Polarization method which requires passive polarized glasses; Alternate frame sequencing which require head gear or glasses with active shutter mechanism and Auto-stereoscopic displays which can be viewed without the need of glasses and head wear.

Many companies are focused on developing the kind of Auto stereoscopic technology which can be viewed without the help of glasses. This is because glasses can be limiting and restrict the viewer in a number of ways. It is also impractical to wear the glasses for long periods of time as it can give the viewer head aches and other problems if worn for too long. This is why development of auto stereoscopic methods is very important if the 3D TV technology really needs to win over the consumer market. Unless these television sets are developed, 3D technology cannot make its mark on the users on a larger scale. This sophisticated technology needs to be developed so that more than two viewers can look at the television screen and actually be able to view proper 3D imaging.

The idea behind these auto-stereoscopic television sets is that they rely on the human ability to see different depths and images from both eyes. The viewing screen is created in such a way that both eyes see completely different images. The image has to be sent in a way that left eye receives its own specific image and the right eye receives the imagery meant specifically for the right side. While the display looks like regular TV screen, the screen is actually fitted with a plastic lenticular sheet in front of the display screen which is home to a number of tiny lenses that work towards refracting the light from the display pixels. This refraction causes each eye to receive a different image and hence be able to view the image in 3D.

While otherwise feasible, at the moment this 3D TV technology is not good enough to allow the viewer to sit anywhere other than directly in front of the television set. This is why there is still a lot of development required to be able to make a display for people standing at any given angle. There are eye tracking systems that can incorporate this but using that technology in the television screen will just raise the costs too high for the consumer to afford. Another problem is developing a means to broadcast the required information with ease. Once these problems have been overcome 3D TV can then seriously be considered a serious option to replace all current television sets in consumer homes.

As you start the journey of research into purchasing a new television all the offerings of different types and technologies that are available to us now. The two most prominent technologies are the Plasmas and the LCDs. Choosing what is correct for you requires some knowledge of the good and bad of each one, plus you need to know how you will implement it in your house. So reading this will be a good guide for picking the right one for your life.

LCD, liquid crystal display, televisions come in screen sizes as small as 5 inches and as large as 65 or more inches making it easier to place LCD televisions in tighter spaces. Unlike LCD televisions, Plasma screen televisions are only available in large sizes with screens ranging from 42 inches to more than 65 inches. Due partly to their size and the differences in technology, Plasma screens are considered to consume slightly more power per inch than LCD televisions. The good news is that both of the televisions are in roughly the same price range and the prices have decreased significantly in recent years.

Experts in technology will say that the plasma offers a higher quality picture than LCD televisions. This is due to the contrast ratio, as high as 40,000 to 1 on plasma, somewhat less than that on the LCD screens. This contrast ration will present very good black levels and very impressive white levels. It’s harder for the LCD televisions to have this type of color accuracy because they make color by manipulating the light waves.

LCD manufacturers have sought to correct these shortcomings by increasing the amount of color pixels, but Plasma screens still have a slight advantage when comparing color accuracy and black levels. Plasma screens also offer great viewing from almost any angle in the room. Unfortunately, LCD televisions suffer from slight image fading when viewed from extreme side angles. However, LCD televisions are not usually as reflective as Plasma screens and so they perform better in brighter rooms.

The life of the screen for the LCD and the Plasma will be approximately twenty years assuming a watching time of eight hours daily. They both have HDTV broadcast ability and also make the movies and DVDs look spectacular. A lot of the LCDs can also be used along with a computer as a monitor, a screen capable of 1080hp will give the best quality image. Plasmas are starting to have this computer monitor ability but it’s very common for the LCDs. The LCD has a better performance in high altitudes so that’s why they are used by airlines.

What is actually 3D TV?

Before discussing this issue, it is important for one to have an understanding of what is actually the 3D TV we are talking about now.

The short answer is that 3D television is a display technology that enables viewers in the home to experience TV programs, movies and video games in what is referred to as a stereoscopic effect. It relies on the use of stereopsis or separation, to add the illusion of a third dimension to an otherwise two-dimensional flat image.

This illusion is created by simultaneously displaying two separate full-size but slightly different images of the same scene – one for the left eye and the other for the right eye. The differences in the two images are intended to mimic in very simple terms, the way the human vision system sees an object. The distance separating the eyes of a human being – referred to as interpupillary distance – helps the eyes see objects from a slightly different angle, leading to two slightly but distinct images. The brain processes these differences to generate among others, relative depth information to create the 3-dimensional image.

However, the way 3D TV generates a 3D image is not exactly in line with the way we see an object in space in that while 3D TV relies on image separation only, human vision uses both image separation and eye focusing cues to determine image depth. For many, this is not much of an issue in that image separation is often sufficient for the brain to determine relative image depth. However, this difference leads to a number of undesirable effects with 3D TV such as disorientation and in some cases, even headaches.

What is different from the 3D we have seen in the recent past is that now we are talking about a 3D experience that can support a 1080p HD image for each eye. Up to now, this was not possible.

Challenges of 3D in the Home

Well, 3D TV in the home has become a reality but… we believe that 3D Television still has to overcome a few serious issues before it will become a true mainstream technology in home entertainment.

In other words, it will still take a few more years for 3D TV technology to become the mainstream TV technology in the home.

Technology is still very expensive to be affordable by the average family. Suffice to say that at the present prices, a typical 3D HDTV and two pairs of 3D-glasses – (3D glasses are necessary for the displayed image by a 3D TV set to appear as a 3D illusion) cost some $1,000 more than a 2D equivalent HDTV. And two sets of glasses are the bare minimum; you a pair of 3D glasses for each member of the family viewing 3D TV content.

3D glasses – 3D TV’s necessary evil: We mentioned the 3D glasses. The issue with the glasses does not stop at their expensive price tag (circa $150 per pair). The added inconvenience brought about by the necessary 3D glasses is definitely something that not even TV makers know if the end consumer would eventually accept. You see, wearing a pair of 3D glasses for an extended period to watch one of the latest Blu ray movies in 3D is an acceptable compromise. But to enjoy all your TV viewing with a rather over sized 3D glasses is another matter.

3D experience in the home is different from that enjoyed at the movie theater. While there is no doubt that the 3D TV experience in the home is definitely pleasing, yet it is less immersive and impressive than in the movie theater.

3D Content: True 3D TV content is a scarce resource and no matter what the movie and entertainment industry will be doing in this respect, it will remain so for a number of years to come in comparison to what you have in 2D. It is true that some 3D HDTVs come with a 2D-to-3D converter but this would be like the vague virtual surround you get from an old stereo recording.

Upgrade Reluctance: Many have just upgraded from their tube TV to a flat panel TV; some have even got a step further and purchased their second LCD or plasma TV. These are still enjoying their ‘new’ HDTV purchase and I do not think that they will be the once to upgrade to the latest 3D TV technology – at least for now and at the present pricing.

It should only acquire a number of minutes to master these 4 effortless Blackjack suggestions, although you must training for a couple of hours to obtain comfy with them just before definitely playing in a casino game.

Very first, A SHORT AND Uncomplicated LESSON Over the GAME Suggestions

For those who currently know the way to engage in Blackjack, it is easy to skip this section. Otherwise, it’s going to only consider a number of minutes to find out the rather simple actively playing guidelines.

Greeting card VALUES

Tens and encounter credit cards be counted as 10, Aces be counted as possibly one or 11 (your preference), and all other cards have a very count equal to their face value.

THE Play

All game enthusiasts engage in against the supplier, not towards an individual an additional. Each player makes their guess as well as the company starts out by dealing two handmade cards to every single player and two homemade cards to himself. The dealer’s second greeting card is dealt face-up for all players to see. Should the trader carries a “Blackjack” (and Ace plus a ten or face card), he will immediately turn it above and instantly wins all bets, unless a player also incorporates a Blackjack, in which situation it really is a tie.

Then, beginning with all the player to the dealer’s left, every single player has the option of standing (not drawing any way more cards) or being dealt extra homemade cards. Play continues with that player till the player stands or “busts” (gets a card count that totals more than 21). Following all gamers have made their choices (or busted), the vendor draws increased cards to either reach a total of 17 or greater (when they have got to instantly stop), or bust. If the seller doesn’t bust, all remaining player’s hands having a higher card complete win, and many using a reduced card total get rid of.

One especially essential point to remember is this: you goal isn’t to have a greeting card count as close to 21 as achievable, but for getting closer to 21 than the vendor, without having intending around. The objective is to beat the trader! Therefore, your decisions on whether or not draw extra handmade cards are dependent about the value from the dealer’s up card.

Doubling lower suggests you can actually double your unique gamble soon after you obtain your primary two cards. You then obtain one – and only a – further greeting card.

Splitting pairs implies that whenever you acquire any pair on your earliest two charge cards, you may split them into two separate hands and perform each one an individual independently (of course, you ought to location an additional wager equal for your primary gamble for the 2nd hands).

Getting insurance plan signifies that in case the dealer’s up card is definitely an Ace, you are able to wager an increased amount equal to half your authentic guess as “insurance” in situation the supplier incorporates a blackjack. If the dealer incorporates a blackjack, you drop your unique wager but your insurance cover wager is paid at a couple of to 1, so you break even.

This is simply because the strategies for many plays are several depending on whether or not you employ a smooth palm or perhaps a tricky hand.

A “soft” hands is only one that has an Ace which can be counted as 11 (don’t forget: Aces may be counted as possibly an individual or 11). For example, a hands composed of an Ace including a four is named a delicate 15.

A hand that possibly includes no Aces or the Ace is counted as the one is labeled as a “hard” palm. For example, a hands composed of the 6 and also a 9 is known as a really hard 15. A hands with an Ace and 4 is referred to as a delicate 15 (11 and also 4), but at any time you then draw an 8 you need to count the Ace as one instead of 11, giving you a very difficult 13 (since counting it as 11 would offer you a “bust” hands of 23).
