Chin Liposuction – Get Rid of Double Chin

Liposuction is a process that most people associate with parts of the body like the hips, buttocks, thighs or stomach. The fact is, though, that this procedure is done on many areas of the body, including the chin. The chin is actually one of the most common places to have it done, and most cosmetic surgeons are experienced in this type of minor surgery. The chin is a prominent part of the head, and how it looks definitely affects how the entire face looks, and some people seek to improve the look of their chin through this method.

Reason

The main reason that people get chin liposuction is because they have “double chins”, meaning that there is fat below their regular chins that make the chins look bigger and less attractive. Though double chins are common in overweight people, people who are normal weight or even underweight can have them as well. It’s often a matter of genetics.

The Procedure

Chin liposuction is almost always performed on an outpatient basis, and usually with a local anesthetic. Some patients opt to take a mild tranquilizer to relax them during the procedure, but they still remain awake. The doctor makes tiny incisions, usually under the chin and close to the ear where they are not highly visible, and then inserts a tube called a “cannula”. Using oscillation, the doctor liquefies the fat, then sucks it out through the cannula. The fat isn’t simply sucked out wherever it is found; the procedure is more strategic, leaving fat in places where it’s needed for optimum face shape, and removing it in other places. In some cases, some skin under the chin needs to be removed and the two remaining sides stitched together in order to tighten things after the fat is removed. In that case, a general anesthetic would be used.

Aftercare

It’s important to follow your doctor’s instructions after chin liposuction. Usually, you need to keep to a liquid or very soft-food diet for at least a day or two, so you’re not using the chin area too much. Afterward, it’s usually okay to simply go by how you feel. Many times a chin strap is used for a few days to protect the area where the operation was done and provide support during healing. When healing, the body needs plenty of rest, so get at least 8 hours of sleep each night, and take a nap during the day if possible. Follow-up appointments with your doctor are important as well.

Chin liposuction can make a big difference in how you look and how you feel about yourself. As long as you choose a reputable doctor to perform the procedure and follow all aftercare guidelines, you will mostly likely see very positive results.
